Right to Rent

In England, as of 1st February 2016 (1st December 2014 in the West Midlands) landlords letting privately rented accommodation must complete a Right To Rent check for all new tenants.

This means checking that a tenant has the right to live in the UK before allowing them to rent a property under the Immigration Act 2014. Any landlord who fails to comply and rents accommodation to someone who isn't in the country lawfully can receive a penalty of up to £3,000 per tenant.
