Call for evidence: The economics of Universal Credit (UC)

Responding to a House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee call for evidence into the economic impact of Universal Credit, Caridon Landlord Solutions highlighted the issues landlords and tenants have with the UC system and the consequences claimants face.

The Committee will make recommendations to the Government, however, this call for evidence closed prior to the outbreak of Coronavirus.

In just six weeks, one and a half million people have applied for Universal Credit due to job losses and financial difficulties brought about by COVID-19, putting an enormous amount of pressure on Department for Work and Pensions, and further highlighting existing flaws in the system, such as the five week wait.
